Here's what Walt Disney Pictures currently has on tap for us, scheduled for release during the upcoming year 2012!

January 13: BEAUTY AND THE BEAST 3D, also in Disney Digital 3D

Residing quietly beneath the floorboards are little people who live undetected in a secret world to be discovered, where the smallest may stand tallest of all.  From the legendary Studio Ghibli (“Spirited Away,” “Ponyo”) comes “The Secret World of Arrietty,” an animated adventure based on Mary Norton’s acclaimed children’s book series “The Borrowers.”

March 9: JOHN CARTER, also in Disney Digital 3D and IMAX 3D

 From Academy Award®–winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes “John Carter”—a
sweeping action‐adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom
(Mars). “John Carter” is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose
highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past
and present. The film tells the story of war‐weary, former military captain John Carter
(Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly
embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet,
including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn
Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he
realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

April 20 - To Celebrate Earth Day!: CHIMPANZEE (Disneynature)  

Disneynature takes moviegoers deep into the forests of Africa with “Chimpanzee,” a new True Life Adventure introducing an adorable baby chimp named Oscar and his entertaining approach to life in a remarkable story of family bonds and individual triumph.  Oscar’s playful curiosity and zest for discovery showcase the intelligence and ingenuity of some of the most extraordinary personalities in the animal kingdom. May 4: MARVEL’S THE AVENGERS, also in 3D and IMAX 3D (Marvel Studios) 

Marvel Studios presents “Marvel’s The Avengers”—the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins.

Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Witch (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. September 14: FINDING NEMO 3D (Disney/Pixar)

October 5: FRANKENWEENIE, also in Disney Digital 3D

From creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.

A stop-motion animated film, “Frankenweenie” will be filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D, which will elevate the classic style to a whole new experience.

In Tim Burton’s “Frankenweenie” young Victor conducts a science experiment to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life, only to face unintended, sometimes monstrous, consequences.
