Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil ~ Review & Giveaway

I confess, I didn't know much at all about coconut oil when I received my sample of Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil from Topical Traditions.  I was excited to try it ... I just didn't know what to do with it!

So I started with their website, and watched this neat video on how they use an all natural, "old fashioned" method to extract their Gold Label coconut oil - by hand, on individual farms in the Philippines!  I love the story here...

Here's what I learned about coconut oil:
  • It's very good for you, is a healthier cooking oil to use than other options, and is packed with antioxidants.  And because of the extraction method (it's virgin, not refined like many others) Tropical Traditions uses for their Gold Label oils, it has double the antioxidants as other coconut oils!

  • You can use it for just about anything.  I tried everything from baking my regular chocolate chip cookie recipe with it (substituted it for the butter and Crisco I normally use) to frying hash browns.

Everything was very good - no "different" or coconutty flavor.  The hash browns were actually fantastic ... crispy, light and delicious but not greasy in the slightest.

  • I'm convinced that Tropical Traditions has the best coconut oil available to buy.  When I talked to my friend about coconut oil, she said her family had tried some (of its health benefits), but disliked the flavor it had added to their foods.

However, the brand that she had tried was  different one from the local health food store, which was not the same quality (or extracted the same way) as Tropical Traditions Virgin Gold Label coconut oil.  That hadn't been my experience with Tropical Traditions at all!

I also love that they gather recipes from far and wide and post them on their Free Coconut Recipes Blog, offering you 1000's of great ideas on how to use coconut oil.

Overall, I think Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is a fantastic product of superior quality, a good choice for healthy living, and something I would recommend to my friends and family.  I'm going to continue to look for ways to work it into our diet.
