Disney Family.com's Site Moving to Facebook

On January 12, 2012, the Disney Family.com's Parenting Community site will be shutting down!  This was an online social forum that offered fun gadgets and games, creation of your own personal family avatar portrait scene and profile page, and social groups that were daily posted to by fans with photos and comments.

The official statement is as follows:  "We have had fun here at Family.com for the last four years and have loved every minute we have spent with all of you. It's time for an exciting change. Our Community here at Family.com will be closing on Thursday, January 12th and moving to a new location!

Come and join us on Facebook, it's a new space and a new look! You will see our same hosts and most of the same hosted groups. We are excited about the new features we have there, in particular the ability to really be there live with each other. When we are there, feel free to send us a chat message, even if to just say hello in real time. The groups are already created so hop over there and check them out."

One of the problems I have with this development is that their plan is to move only the groups that Disney Family.com created.  Well, in the duration of 4 years ... numerous groups have been created by users - including the most active group on the entire site: "You, Me & Disney".  These groups were all to be dissolved.  

Public notice was just released, with less than one week's notice.  In that short span of time, they have received definite online pushback.  Skepticism abounds, as many Disney Family users either do not use Facebook or dislike it, and are feeling like they are being forced take the plunge. The ease of use and anonymity of the Disney Family Community site were a large part of its appeal, and many believe these desirable elements will be lacking within its new framework on Facebook.

But Disney fans are not faint of heart, and I believe many will rise to this new challenge of change!

In a positive turn of events, the most active group "You, Me, & Disney" - created personally by a user named mrswingert, loved and read by many, and updated multiple times daily - has now been slated to also be moved to Facebook ... due to popular demand!  As a member of that group, I was happy to see this development - and hope to gather once again with my cronies to chat about all things Disney.

But I am definitely going to miss the Disney Family.com site.  Farewell, to all who do not make the switch over to Facebook.
